Sơn Đoòng, The World's Largest Cave Expedition

With support from the National Geographic Global Exploration Fund and numerous sponsors, Martin Edström and his team set out to plan, illuminate and explore the largest cave in the world like never seen before.

Thanks to the natural light, a forest has formed inside the cave that creeps as far into the cave as the light reaches. But the majority of the cave’s unfathomable volume needed to be artificially lit. Lighting is exactly what became Edström and his team their largest challenge, because they not only needed to light the cave in one direction, like for still photos and video, but in all directions to capture a 360 degree panoramic image.

To meet the demands, Edström ordered three MKR30 lights from XLED Technology. These lights provided 44,000 lumens at 300W from 30 separate LEDs

After Sơn Đoòng’s first 360° sharp photo series was posted by National Geographic on their website, the product made a huge mark on readers around the world. The photo series has satisfied those who wish to conquer Sơn Đoòng once in their life without conditions to perform.

‘Fortunately, these three lights turned out to be enough to light the caverns. I can recommend them for basically all lighting challenges where you need maximum output from the smallest and most portable source.’ – Martin Edström

El Gran Pozo De Cantabria (The Great Well of Cantabria)

In 2016 several speleologists were exploring a region near the municipality of Ruesga, Cantabria. There, a small fissure was found, from which an abnormal strong air current was expelled. Other large cave systems were also discoverd in the same region and several days after exploring the entrance, a massive uniamginable discovery was made. The entrance lead to a cave shaft or ‘wel’ of 435 meters in depth. The insane length made it one of the deepest continous natural cave shaft ever discovered.

The Spanish TV show Volando Voy, with the famous adventurer Jezus Calleja as its presentator, set out the challenge to light the cave from top to bottom. With a small entrance and an absolute length in which the Eiffel Tower could fit, XLED was able to perfectly compliment this spectacular  quest. The Volando Voy team contacted XLED to fit them with the right equipment and make an appearance on the show.

The episode aired on the third of november, 2017 and amassed 1.6 million viewers. With the XLED lights bringing the ultimate experience.
